Joojoo Revamp
So the Joojoo is still alive, reading through the News Engadget had a look at the restyled Interface, which in my opinon is really good work. Also the specs which got out of the FCC tell us the Joojoo will feature 3G Wireless, as well as Nvidia ION and Atom CPU.
After all looking at those specs as well as the new homescreen, Fusion Garage certainly put some real work into the Joojoo after Apple announced the iPad, and the Joojoo just had to be compared to it. As long as Fusion Garage manages to handle the power needed to run an Intel Atom + ION combo well enough to get a decent battery live, they seem to have a great Product coming, I just can’t wait. After all the 3G made it even more desirable.
I just hope that they can build a decent community around the Joojoo, maybe by keeping it hackable, which might be quite easy seeing Pictures of the Joojoo running Windows 7.

The Joojoo and the iPad … and not a lot of news
First of all sorry it took me some time to write something again, but after all there were almost no news except about the lawsuit by Mike Arrington and the reply by Fusion Garage. In short nothing changed Mike says Fusion Garage took the design an IP by Techcrunch, while Fusion Garage says Techcrunch never had a contract, and does not own any IP. Great story thanks, and I don’t really care I want the device nothing less nothing more.
Secondly Apple announced the iPad, and all the media is up and about to cover it. To me It seems like the iPad pretty much covers a similar area as the Joojoo does. Both are big capacitive touchscreen devices, with a focus on the browser. While the iPad seems geared more towards an overall experience, with the AppStore, and iBooks and so on, the focus for the Joojoo seems clearer on the Web.
To me both devices seem like a modern take on the Tablet concept, and we will see whats more important to the user. Personally I think the Joojoo being a little bigger and featuring an USB Port as well as SD Slot might actually be more of an all round device than the iPad, but it might also be limited by it’s shorter battery life, making it more of a coffee-table device, while the iPad might feel more mobile.
After all we heard nothing about shipping Joojoo’s, yet. Also my own sign up for availability notice hasn’t told me anything. I guess we have to wait and see. I hope the Joojoo makes it to market before the iPad does in april.
Stay tuned for more, I hope we get some real news soon. Can’t wait to get my hands on either iPad and or Joojoo.
Techspecs
So far Fusion Garage only released Facts like size, weight and so on. As far as I know there is nothing known about processor or video card, yet. The Specs can be viewed on the joojoo web page.
The resolution with 1366 by 768 sure seems impressive, this is of course to view “HD” Content. 1366 by 768 is also the resolution specified as “HD Ready” so you can see where that number comes from.
While weighing in at only 2.4 lbs the joojoo is 0.6 lbs lighter that the Macbook Air, which is already amazingly light for a device with a 13″ screen. Of course the joojoo screen is about 1″ less, and also it’s missing the keyboard, but still, less than 3 lbs means this is a really portable piece of hardware. And being capacitive touch (like the iPhone), the screen might be the most impressive piece of technology seen in a long time.
Going down the spec list, you pretty much get what you expect of an Internet device, like webcam, usb, headset and so on. The one thing I’m kind of worried about is the 5h of battery life, because as we know from notebooks, you seldom get what is promised in battery life. Thinking about my Macbook Pro which is also supposed to get 4.5h while dying after about 3h usually this means the joojoo wouldn’t get me through a nice evening on the coach without a cord attached. You see I don’t see the joojoo as a device I would travel with (that often at least) but a device I use while sitting on at home or at a friends house, while watching a movie or just enjoying some vine or beer. Since I don’t want to carry a charger I probably would have my joojoo dying at about 1:00 at night, oh well maybe it will get me to bed earlier than I’m used to. On the other hand maybe the 9s boot will help with the battery, because if the device is back up after 9s maybe I will shut down sometimes. Of course it is still to find out what kind of boot that is. Maybe it’s cold boot which would mean my open pages are gone? Or is it some kind of Suspend to Disk mode, which would be perfect because everything would be there as left, and I really could shutdown now and then without worrying about losing those 10 pages I’ve been looking at.
After all to me the joojoo is the device I maybe have been waiting for, capacitive touch is a killer argument to me, because after using the iPhone for some time, you don’t want to go back to resistive touch ever again. Looking a the videos there a still some kinks to be worked out but they have been putting a device together like this from the ground up, please don’t make it crippled by the OS.
Oh well I will pre-order as soon as it is available for Germany.
Seems like nobody is interested in the Joojoo
… but I am so, soon I will try to make this Blog the ressource for everything there is to know about the Joojoo by Fusion Garage.
Currently there is little to be said besides it’s being availible for pre-order. And it has been shown to some large blogs like Gizmodo, Engadet, Wired and CNet.
I hope to get some news and a new theme up here shortly. For now stay tuned, and follow joojooblog on twitter.
